TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) – Early voting ahead of Florida’s primary election is ending.

Sunday marks the last day that registered voters can cast ballots before Tuesday’s primary. So far nearly 500,000 voters statewide have cast ballots at early voting sites, according to data compiled by the Florida Division of Elections.

Early voting must begin 10 days before election day, but election supervisors can add extra days.

Another 1.15 million voters have already voted by mail. An additional 1.18 million ballots were requested but haven’t been returned yet.

Florida has nearly 12.4 million registered voters and may surpass the voter turnout from the 2012 primary election. That year 2.34 million voters cast ballots in the primary.

This year’s primary election features primaries for U.S. Senate and several competitive races for Congress and the Legislature.
