Weekend rain expected, but nothing abnormal

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Southwest Florida will be soaked with rain throughout the weekend and into next week, but it will be nothing abnormal as activity in the Atlantic is not expected to result in a major storm.

Tropical disturbance Invest 99-L is “not well organized at all” to the point that hurricane hunters from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration canceled their flight into the storm on Friday, WINK Weather meteorologist Scott Zedeker said.

The storm, with no circle of concentration Friday evening, is expected to reach Key West by Sunday.

“We could see some slow development then, and we could see some better development, if it survives this track, on Monday,” Zedeker said.

Scattered rain is expected Saturday, Sunday and Monday as temperatures reach the upper 80s and low 90s, but “it’s nothing we can’t handle,” Zedeker said.
