Immokalee human remains identified as man missing since 2011

IMMOKALEE, Fla. – Human remains found earlier this month have been identified as Joannis Gabaud, 42, of Immokalee, the Collier County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.

Gabaud’s roommate told deputies he moved out of their residence on West Adams Avenue in December 2011, taking some of his clothing and all of his toiletries with him, the department said.

“Gabaud’s family members told deputies he was a healthy adult who took no medications and had not expressed a desire to harm himself,” the department said.

The remains had no outwardly visible signs of trauma, deputies said. The county Medical Examiner’s Office is currently determining Gabaud’s cause and manner of death.

Gabaud’s remains were found near the intersection of Madison Avenue West and Indian River Street on Aug. 8. The location is close to the home of Johnathan Contreras, the youngest member of a group accused of a violent string of home invasions across the state. It was not immediately known if Gabaud has any connection to Contreras or his co-defendants.
