Culliver placed on physically unable to perform list

DAVIE, Fla. (AP) – Cornerback Chris Culliver was placed on the physically unable to perform list Wednesday after signing a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins, and said he expects to join practice soon.

“The next couple of weeks,” he said. “I’m glad to be here. I’m just taking my time and progressing.”

Culliver, who signed Tuesday, is still recovering from torn ACL and MCL ligaments in his right knee. He was hurt last Thanksgiving and released in May by the Washington Redskins.

Culliver said he’s running and doing light cuts, and coach Adam Gase described the newcomer’s status as day to day.

“I’m excited to see him when we can get him out there and get him rolling to see what he can do in this defense,” Gase said. “I like the fact that we were aggressive and went out and got him, and adding depth to that position.”

Miami is thin at cornerback, where converted receiver Tony Lippett and free agent acquisition Byron Maxwell are listed as the starters. Culliver has 26 career starts and seven interceptions.

“There’s a lot more I want to accomplish,” he said.

The Dolphins released center-guard Jacques McClendon and linebacker Danny Lansanah.
