WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) – A 12-year-old boy is facing charges that he smothered a 4-month-old baby in Florida last December to keep the infant from crying.

West Palm Beach police spokeswoman Det. Lori Colombino said in a statement the boy was arrested Wednesday and charged with manslaughter.

The statement says police and paramedics found the baby unresponsive at a home last Dec. 2. The baby was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead.

Police say the investigation revealed that the boy confessed to placing a pillow over the baby’s face to prevent the infant from crying.

Police have not released the gender of the victim or said if the boy was a sibling or otherwise related. They also have not released the children’s names or further details.
