Suspect in custody in Lehigh residential burglaries

LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. — One person is in custody following two residential burglaries that took place just before 6 a.m. Wednesday on the 700 block of Homer Avenue South in Lehigh Acres.

Another crime scene at the 300 block of Homer was also connected to the burglaries, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said.

Wednesday morning, the street was blocked off with police tape, and at least eight police vehicles were present.

The front door and windows of one of the homes were splattered with blood after a man came jumping through the window, said Carlos Hernandez, a relative of the people who live there. The man first knocked on the door and desperately pleaded for assistance, Hernandez told WINK News.

“First thing that happened, he was banging on the door and rang the doorbell, asking for help,” Hernandez said in Spanish. “He said he was dying. ‘I’m dying! I’m dying!’ No one answered the door. My sister went in and woke her husband up, so he came running. And when they came running back, he was already inside the house.”

The sheriff’s office says no other suspects are at large.
