Traffic stop in Golden Gate Estates leads to convicted felon’s arrest

NAPLES, Fla.- A convicted felon was arrested following a traffic stop in Golden Gate Estates early Wednesday morning, the Collier County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies say Yoandy Ledesma Carmona, 29, of Tampa had two active warrants for battery/domestic violence out of Hillsborough County.

Deputies patrolling near Wilson Boulevard and 12th Avenue Northeast around midnight noticed items being thrown from the passenger windows of a red Dodge four-door vehicle in front of them.

After pulling the car over, the four people inside admitted they had thrown out cigarette butts and a beer bottle. But while doing a search of the vehicle, authorities say Ledesma Carmona attempted to flee.

The suspect was quickly apprehended although he resisted being handcuffed, authorities said.

Inside the car, deputies later discovered a fully loaded, black Smith & Wesson .357 handgun underneath Ledesma Carmona’s seat.

Ledesma Carmona was arrested for his out-of-county warrants and is also facing charges for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and resisting arrest without violence.
