NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. — A man was taken into custody in connection to a bank robbery Tuesday morning at the Wells Fargo on 5500 Bayshore Road in North Fort Myers.

Authorities apprehended the suspect near the corner of Palm Beach Boulevard and Ortiz Avenue.

“The lady was coming out from the Wells Fargo and she was saying ‘They’re being robbed’ and I thought she was joking!” said Melvin Bowers who was about to walk into the bank when he saw someone running out. “I turned to her to see the expression on her face, and that’s when the cops rolled in.”

The bank has been robbed multiple times in the past few years, most recently in April 2015.

The identity of the person in custody has not yet been released.
