FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. — The deceased body of a 62-year-old man who went missing in the water while paddleboarding with his wife off Fort Myers Beach has been recovered, WINK News has learned.

Divers from the Iona-McGregor Fire Protection and Rescue Service District located the body, which is being taken to a U.S. Coast Guard station to be examined, Fort Myers Beach Fire Control Capt. Mike Brown said. The man fell off his paddleboard Saturday morning in water near Connecticut Street, came up once for air, and fell back in the water, Brown said.

The man’s wife was with Coast Guard officials as the search took place. At least one helicopter and multiple boats were deployed. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, and fire departments from Iona-McGregor, Bonita Springs, Cape Coral and Sanibel were among the agencies that assisted in the effort after the initial call came in at 8:45 a.m.
