Man follows woman home, pulls off armed carjacking, neighbors say

NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. — A man followed a woman from a grocery store to her home on Lagoon Drive in North Fort Myers, went into her garage, threw her to the ground and stole her Cadillac at gunpoint Wednesday, neighbors said.

A blue car followed the stolen white Cadillac out of the neighborhood after the attack, according to neighbors. Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputies were on the scene late into the night.

The Cadillac was abandoned in Fort Myers and recovered Thursday, according to Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers.

It appears that the crime was premeditated and that those involved scoped out the area beforehand, neighbor Scott Sorensen said.

“On the third of July, I’d seen a suspicious blue car in the neighborhood,” Sorensen said. “And I told the neighbors about it, and just told them to keep a check on it, because we all kind of keep an eye on stuff.

A cellphone located in the garage may belong to one of the people who pulled off the heist, neighbors also said.

The incident is atypical for the area near Moody Road, according to Sorensen.

“It’s a pretty quiet neighborhood. Usually there’s no issues.”
