Woman fails in attempt to smuggle drugs into prison under weave

PUNTA GORDA, Fla.- A woman visiting the Charlotte Correctional Institution later found herself behind bars after officials discovered her attempting to smuggle drugs inside.

Tiffany Scurry, 30, was planning to visit an inmate but she was caught before ever making it inside, officials said.

“Employees there did that pat-down search,” said Skip Conroy, Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office spokesman. “They discovered some unusual lumps in her wig.”

Those lumps turned out to be 30 Oxycontin pills and ecstasy stashed underneath her weave, officials said.

“There was some forethought that went into that,” Conroy added. “There were some measures taken to conceal the contraband.”

Scurry confessed to having the drugs on her and later during a search of her car, investigators also uncovered nearly 20 grams of marijuana.

“In more cases than not, you will get caught,” Conroy said. “In this case she did and she knew she was. So she was the better person about it and said ‘you got me,’ so off to jail she went.”

Scurry now faces multiple felony charges including drug trafficking.
