Arson investigation underway after car fire near Sun Splash

CAPE CORAL, Fla. — The state fire marshal is conducting an arson investigation after an early morning car fire near the intersection of Southwest Fifth Street and Southwest Second Avenue, the Cape Coral Fire Department said.

The location is close to the Sun Splash Family Waterpark. Crews worked to tow a burned small sedan from a grassy area beneath trees that were singed in the fire.

Authorities found the license plate, Vehicle Identification Number and other possible identifying components of the car had been removed, according to the fire department. No further information is immediately available.
