FORT MYERS, Fla. — Police are seeking a man detectives believe was behind an armed robbery and an attempted armed robbery that took place Friday night in Fort Myers.

The victims in both crimes described the suspect as a thin black man between 5-foot-4 and 5-foot-10, according to Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers, which is seeking help from members of the public to track down the suspect. The victims also said he was wearing a black bandanna around his face.

The man is alleged to have pressed the barrel of a handgun against the chest of a victim near Beacon Boulevard and Elkton Street. The suspect took the victim’s wallet containing $10, his house key and two religious charms, Crime Stoppers said.

The suspect fled north on Beacon and struck again 15 minutes later in a parking lot at 8539 Beacon Blvd., according to Crime Stoppers. He allegedly pointed a handgun in the second victim’s face while repeatedly shouting “give me the money,” Crime Stoppers said. That victim managed to push the gun away and escape.

Crime Stoppers asks anyone with information about the case to call 1-800-780-TIPS (8477). Callers will remain anonymous and are eligible for a reward of up to $1,000. Tips may also be made online at www.southwestfloridacrimestoppers.com or via text to CRIMES (274637) Keyword: REWARD.
