Multiple locations for new Lee County school under consideration

BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. – The search for the location of Lee County’s newest high school continues.

Gregory Adkins, Lee County Schools District Superintendent, is expected to mention the topic Tuesday.

The school board is actively negotiating multiple sites after the contract for a controversial site fell through. The site was located off Imperial Parkway. Many residents complained about plans to build on the site, which they suspected was contaminated with asbestos.

The school board tested the soil and discovered toxic traces of diesel fuel. The county’s contract with the site’s owner expired before further tests could be performed.

Adkins said the site off Imperial Parkway is still being considered. A second site under consideration is located off Old U.S. 41 near railroad tracks.
