Car catches fire after high-speed chase on I-75

NAPLES, Fla. – Two people were arrested after sending authorities on a high-speed chase down Interstate-75 on Tuesday.

The highway is closed at mile marker 99 while authorities investigate.

The chase began when deputies attempted to stop a gray car with an expired tag and darkly tinted windows shortly after 4 p.m., authorities said. The driver failed to stop, so deputies gave chase, deputies said.

The car lost control twice, landing in medians. The driver was able to get the car out out of the first median, then drove into westbound lanes. The car went up in flames after the driver and passenger got out at the second median.

Deputies tried to use stop sticks unsuccessfully, but were able to use a pit maneuver to stop the car, authorities said.
