YEEHAW JUNCTION, Fla. – Federal authorities are trying to link pornographic images found on a suspect’s phone to the bedroom of 9-year-old Diana Alvares as the search for the missing girl continues.

Jorge Guerrero, 28, is in prison with no bond and facing charges for child pornography.

On Tuesday authorities were seen searching in a field near Yeehaw Junction. This area is where Guerrero, the man suspected of kidnapping Alvares, told authorities he was hours before the Lee County girl went missing. Cellphone data also pinged his phone in that area, where the device was stationary before it was pinned in Okeechobee County hours later.

Rainy weather forced Deputies to call off the search and they were unable to find anything even as they used horses, trailers and a mobile command center off Highway 60. Their search will resume and they are expected to continue sifting through swamps and thick brush.

Guerrero said he was not in Lee County the day Alvares disappeared. But cellphone data show someone using his phone was communicating with someone else in the Alvares home, though the messages were deleted. Guerrero once rented a room in the Alvares’ home before the girl’s mother confronted him about what she felt was an inappropriate relationship between the two of them.

With Guerrero in prison and his daughter missing more than a week after her disappearance, Alvares’ stepfather, Uribe Jimenez, said he has been forced to think about what Guerrero could have done to his child.

“If they found those kind of videos on his phone, so imagine what he could be doing to my daughter,” he said. “That made me angry. That made me start thinking stuff that I don’t event want to think it.”

The family has said they are still remaining hopeful that Alvares is alive.

“I hope that they don’t find her right there. Like I said, we’re still thinking that she’s still alive,” Jimenez said.

It is unknown whether Alvares is the child pictured in alleged images on Guerrero’s phone. She has been missing since May 29.

A $6,000 reward is being offered for information leading to missing Diana. If anyone knows the whereabouts of the 9-year-old or spots her, call 239-477-1000 or 911 immediately so authorities can dispatch a deputy to that location, the Lee County sheriff’s office said.
