MGN ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) – An Allegiant Air flight heading to New Windsor, New York, made an emergency landing shortly after taking off from St. Pete-Clearwater Airport. The Tampa Bay Times reports the plane took off at 7:27 a.m. Thursday and the crew discovered an unspecified mechanical problem around 7:58 a.m. They decided to return to the airport. The plane, carrying 165 passengers and six crew members, landed around 9 a.m. The newspaper reports passengers were put on another plane within a half hour of returning. In a news release, Allegiant said mechanics would investigate the aircraft to diagnose and repair the issue. No further details were immediately available.
