Crime Stoppers: Crucial ZombiCon tipster yet to call in

Published: Updated:

FORT MYERS, Fla.- SWFL Crime Stoppers received about a dozen phone calls Wednesday morning related to the ZombiCon shooting, but a vital tipster has yet to call in.

Authorities say they’re searching for one specific person who called Crime Stoppers between Nov. 11- Nov. 13, a few weeks after the shooting in downtown Fort Myers that killed one and left several others injured.

That person is believed to have more information that could help officials crack the case in the seven-month long investigation.

“When you pick up the phone or you get on the computer and you provide that tip, the only person that knows that you provided that tip, is the person who provided the tip,” said Crime Stoppers coordinator Trish Routte, explaining why investigators can’t simply reach out to tipsters.

“ZombiCon is such a huge priority case and we know that this information is very, very pivotal to hopefully closing this case,” Routte added.

Fort Myers police say they hope they can solve the case even if the tipster doesn’t call.

“I think the police more use anonymous tips to develop the case and confirm information that they have,” said local criminal defense attorney Doug Molloy.

Tipsters can call the hotline at 800-780-TIPS (8477) this upcoming Wednesday, June 1, between 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. to speak with a local Crime Stoppers staffer.

The reward for information leading to an arrest in this case is $36,000.
