Inmate working near FGCU apprehended after escape

FORT MYERS, Fla.- A Florida Department of Corrections inmate who walked away from work detail at the Florida Gulf Coast University campus is now in custody.

Authorities identified the inmate as 37-year-old Ricky Nelson.

FGCU campus police and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office were able to track the inmate down within half an hour, the Department of Corrections said.

Nelson was originally in prison for trafficking cocaine. He was turned over to the Department of Corrections.
