New push for leads in 26-year-old double murder

Published: Updated:

CAPE CORAL, Fla.- Billboards featuring a decades-old double murder will be seen throughout Southwest Florida this week as the Cape Coral Police Department looks for new leads.

Tuesday marks the 26th anniversary of the brutal murders of 11-year-old Robin Cornell and 32-year-old Lisa Story.

The two were killed in their Cape Coral apartment in the early morning hours of May 10, 1990.

Jan Cornell, Robin Cornell’s mother, was at her boyfriend’s home on the evening of May 9 before she went home to discover that her daughter and roommate had been killed.

Detectives have maintained a close relationship with Jan Cornell decades later as they continue searching for the killer.

“She is an active participant in this investigation,” said Detective Christy Jo Ellis. “She is able to recall people from that time and help put pieces of evidence into context.”

CCPD will also be running a paid ad campaign on social media, hoping to reach a wider audience in the search for tips.

If you have any information in the case, contact the Cape Coral Police Department at 239-574-3223 or Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS. You can also submit an anonymous tip. Go to www.capecops.com/tips or text a tip- text CCPD+”Your Message” to CRIMES (274637).
