Father: I want to ‘get inside head’ of my daughter’s accused killer

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The father of a murdered mother wants to speak to her boyfriend, 27-year-old Patrick Carlopoli, who is accused of killing her and her two daughters.

Donald Lewis does not believe that his daughter, 37-year-old Tammy Modlin, had a suicide pact with her boyfriend Carlopoli.

“Everything was fine and she went down there to get a fresh start in life. The only thing is she was in the wrong place in the wrong time with the wrong person,” Lewis said.

That person, Lewis said, is Carlopoli.

Carlopoli pled not guilty to second-degree murder charges for the killing of Modlin and two counts of conspiracy to commit second-degree murder for the deaths of Montana Modlin, 16, and Jeanne Carlopoli, 3. He allegedly watched Modlin stab their family dog, and the two girls before shooting her.

“He could not go through with killing himself. Patrick (Carlopoli) then went outside and called 911 after dropping the firearm on the bed,” a report said.

The bodies of the mother, children and pet were found inside the couple’s shared apartment at Iona Lakes Apartment on Jan. 24. Lewis’ made his most recent trip to Fort Myers to pick up those bodies. Now he wants to confront their accused killer.

“I have known my daughter for 40 something years and I don’t know a thing about him,” Lewis said. “What I would like to do is get inside of his head and find out what the hell happened.”

Court documents show that two days before the killings, Modlin posted a message to Facebook that read “I have suffered from depression my whole life. I have taken a Sam’s bottle of Tylenol. It is my time.”

Carlopoli was fired from his job six days before Modlin and her daughters were killed, deputies said. He is in jail facing charges in connection to the deaths of his family members.
