FORT MYERS, Fla.- More than 100 people, many of them law enforcement, gathered outside Lee Memorial Hospital Friday to honor Lee County deputy Willard Truckenmiller who died suddenly this week.

A flag raising ceremony was held for Truckenmiller after his organs were donated.

A “donate to life” flag was hoisted under the American flag flying outside the hospital. The flag will fly for three days before it is given to Truckenmiller’s family.

Truckenmiller died from an apparent medical episode but the exact cause of death is unknown.

Friday, students at Riverdale High School also continued struggling with the loss of the man known as “Coach Truck.”

Truckenmiller was a volunteer coach with the football team at Riverdale, his alma mater, and he touched the lives of many young people.

“It’s been very sad,” said student Colin Taylor. “Coach Truck was a very amazing man, sweet guy… One of the nicest guys I’ve ever met.”
