LEHIGH ACRES, Fla.- A brush fire burning for hours near Maddock Place and Maddock Street East in Lehigh Acres is considered suspicious, the Florida Forest Service said. The brush fire in a heavily wooded area spread to about 5 acres before it was 100 percent contained late Friday afternoon, officials said. About 6-8 homes were in danger. “It kept getting bigger after they got here and at one point from the window at the house, I could see the flames and there was ash coming all over the house,” said Heidi Heinerich. “It looked like they were starting to get it contained and all of a sudden, it billowed up and we started seeing flames on this side of the canal and all we could think of were the houses over here,” Deb Tezekjian added. No damage or injuries have been reported. Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire. #BREAKING: brush fire lehigh acres @winknews #LeeCounty pic.twitter.com/78Mrim3ucY — Kristin Sanchez WINK (@Kristin_TV) April 29, 2016
