PUNTA GORDA, Fla. – Fire crews had a hard time navigating a home that was on fire Thursday morning. That’s because they said the people who live at the home, located on Paramount Drive off Tamiami Trail, are hoarders, firefighters said. A charred, blackened mess was left behind once the fire was extinguished, but the fire was a close call for two dogs and their owners. One man was quick to help save the pets but all the stuff in and around the home was fuel to the flames, according to firefighters. When fire crews arrived to the scene, the flames were so high they nearly caused a brush fire, authorities said. One of the homeowners was transported to the hospital but is expected to be fine.
