FORT MYERS, Fla.- Southbound lanes were reopened on Interstate 75 near mile marker 130 in Lee County following a fatal four-car pileup, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Robert Gilman Weinland, 79 of Sarasota, was killed in the wreck, which involved four vehicles, and happened at before 1:20 p.m. just south of the Daniels Parkway exit.

A silver car was slowing down when it was rear-ended by a semi tractor-trailer, the highway patrol said. The car spun out of control, then was hit by two other vehicles, including Weinland’s silver mini van.

His female passenger, Gisela Weinland,75 of Sarasota, was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital in stable condition. They both were wearing seatbelts, according to FHP.

Southbound traffic was directed onto Daniels Parkway to Treeline Avenue, then to Alico Road, where motorists returned to I-75.

Lanes were reopened shortly after 7 p.m.

No further information was immediately available.
