Lehigh Acres brush fire inches near homes

LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. – Fire crews are battling flames near homes on Eisenhower Boulevard off State Road 82, though authorities said the homes are not in danger and the brush fire is 100 percent contained at 15 acres.

Neighbors were evacuated from their homes and were waiting for permission to return indoor around 7 p.m.

Before officers arrived, neighbors began to leave their homes.

“When the fire broke out a bunch of neighbors, concerned neighbors I guess,
they were knocking on everybody’s door alerting them that there was a fire in the area,” Lehigh Acres resident Nelson Busigo said. “Four minutes later the cops, the Sheriff’s department showed up and just started evacuating the rest of us.”

“We ran outside and my mom was just grabbing our stuff and we just got in our car and kinda just sat just there for a minute until the firefighters came,” Joan Ruiz said.
Others said the flames sparked old memories. The Currie family lost their home years ago in a brush fire.
“It’s scary. It’s scary, ” Jennifer Currie said. “We’ve been through this before. We lost our house and stood there and watched it burn. This made everything come rushing back and that’s not a good feeling at all.”
