CAPE CORAL, Fla.- The Cape Coral Police Department’s request to use $700,000 to purchase 120 new officer body cameras was unanimously approved by the Cape Coral City Council on Monday. The department only has about 60 cameras currently. Each camera costs about $500. The proposal calls for a five-year contract with the company Taser International. CCPD will receive 60 new cameras this year, followed by the remaining 60 the following year. Through the approval of funding, the police department is also able to get unlimited video storage for the cameras.
