Cape Coral police respond after freeing invasive lizard

CAPE CORAL, Fla. – An officer freed a Nile monitor lizard after a homeowner called about the lizard being stuck in her fence.

The move garnered a lot of criticism because the Nile monitor lizard is an invasive species. Cape Coral police responded by noting that the lizard was not captured.

According to the city of Cape Coral, the Nile monitor lizard species is exclusive to the Southwest Florida city.
