FORT MYERS, Fla. – More than $1.3 million worth of heroin and cocaine was seized Thursday after an eight month investigation the Lee County Sheriff’s Office dubbed as operation “Taquiera Takedown.”

All were scheduled to make their first court appearance on Friday except for Sean McCann, who bonded out of jail.

The group is accused of running a cocaine and heroin drug trafficking organization out of Bonita Springs.

“Enrique Elvira-Gonzalez provided protection, sold narcotics, and worked at the two shops owned by Erick Nunez-Nino, who is the current leader of the organization after taking over for his brother, Alan Nunez-Nino,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

Erick Nunez-Nino operated Kwik Pick stores in Bonita Springs and Naples and previoulsy ran the now defunct Soccer Palace in Bonita Springs, the sheriff’s office said.

“Both Enrique Elvira-Gonzalez and Erick Nunez-Nino have been known to handle the acquisition and distribution of heroin, cocaine, and broker the distribution for other controlled substances leaving them involved in minimal actual narcotics transactions, and having other people acting for them,” the sheriff’s office said.

“Numerous” lower level subjects trafficked narcotics for Alan Nunez-Nino, which was an attempt to conceal his involvement, the sheriff’s office said.

Investigators executed search warrants at 10 locations in Fort Myers, Lehigh Acres, Bonita Springs and Naples, collecting:

  • 91.7 ounces (5.7 pounds) of heroin with a street value of $1.284 million.
  • 188.1 grams of cocaine with a street value of $31,470.
  • 12 hydrocodone pills (5.8 grams) with a street value of $240.
  • $10,501.86 in cash.
  • Seven vehicles, including a 2010 Mercedes Benz ML350 and a 2002 Mini Cooper.

“This will have a significant impact on the supply side of what has been an alarming trend in the demand for heroin and will likely save lives,” Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott said in a statement.
