Toddler nearly drowns in Marco Island pool

MARCO ISLAND, Fla.- A toddler is fighting for his life at the Naples Community Hospital after almost drowning in a swimming pool, the Marco Island Police Department said on Thursday.

Police and firefighters rushed to the home on Parkhouse Court around 5 p.m. Wednesday when the 18-month-old was rescued from the pool. Family members attempted to perform CPR on the toddler before he was taken to the hospital.

The toddler and his family are in Southwest Florida visiting from Champaign, Illinois, officials said.

The near-drowning is under investigation by Marco Island police and the Department of Children and Families.
