NEW YORK (AP) – Federal prosecutors in New York say three men have been charged with conspiring to evade U.S. sanctions against Iran and one has been arrested. They say the other two are fugitives.

Prosecutors said Monday the men conspired to conduct millions of dollars’ worth of transactions on behalf of the Iranian government and Iranian businesses.

One defendant arrested in Florida appeared in federal court in Miami on Monday. All three are charged in a newly unsealed indictment in Manhattan federal court.

The U.S. government says the crimes occurred from 2010 to 2015 as the men laundered money through institutions worldwide. It says the crimes were part of an effort to assist the Iranian government in dodging the effects of U.S. and international economic sanctions.
