FGCU fans cheer on Eagles at watch party

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Hundreds of fans packed a local bar to cheer on the Florida Gulf Coast University Eagles as they advanced in the NCAA Tournament.

FGCU beat Fairleigh Dickenson University 96 – 65 Tuesday night in the largest margin of victory in a ‘First 4’ game in history.

Keys Bar & Grille was loud and rowdy from tip-off and throughout the blowout game. More than 600 students and alum crammed the bar for the Eagles watch party.

The bar was a sea of blue and green as everyone’s school spirit was on full display. Fans say they’re proud and ready for the tournament to begin.

“FGCU has come a long way. I mean, everyone supports the Eagles now,” said FGCU alum Anthony Hobbs.

“I’m really excited you know. I was here my freshmen year, four years ago when we were first Cinderella story and it feels so good to be back,” said Emily Albury. “Like it’s such a great feeling to be back at it. I’m ready to dance and so is FGCU.”

Next up, the Eagles play one seed North Carolina Tar Heels in the round of 64.

The Keys Bar will hold another watch party for that game.
