BRADENTON, Fla.- An inspector with the Charlotte County Community Development department has died from serious injuries sustained during an inspection, Charlotte County officials said.

Richard “Ric” Towne, 62, died Tuesday at Blake Medical Center in Bradenton after officials say he fell during an inspection at Kane’s Furniture in Murdock on March 3.

Towne worked for Community Development for 15 years as a building inspection and a code compliance officer, officials said.

“He served his community and the construction industry well and was a great representative of Charlotte County. He will be sorely missed,” said Charlotte County Commission Chairman Bill Truex.

Charlotte County Administrator Ray Sandrock added, “Ric was a dedicated and valuable member of our Community Development team and well-respected in the building industry for his judgment and integrity.”
