Gunshots disrupt family event at Brooks Park, 4 hit

FORT MYERS, Fla. – A family celebration at Brooks Park on 50 S Road was cut short by gunfire, which sent at least four people to Lee Memorial Hospital on Sunday evening, a source said.

Family members were celebrating the birthday of a loved one who died last year when about 12 men approached the party and a fight broke out before 6 p.m., family members said.

Four people were shot and taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, witnesses said.

About 15 Lee County deputy cars were seen at the park early Sunday evening. Deputies were still speaking with witnesses late into the night.
