Man convicted in 2012 Lehigh Acres double homicide

FORT MYERS, Fla.- A Lehigh Acres man has been found guilty on two counts of first-degree murder and armed robbery in a 2012 double murder.

It took a jury just two hours on Thursday to decide Justin Wirth, now 20, was guilty of shooting and killing 16-year-old William “Dalton” Haley and his mother Amy Loreh, 43, inside their Lehigh Acres home.

Before making a final decision, the jury asked to listen to an interview of Wirth taken just days after the murders. In it, Wirth admits to driving to the victims’ home with the intention of killing Haley.

“I went there to take him out,” Wirth said in the recordings.

“I just shot him when he got around the corner,” Wirth, who was 16 at the time added, also saying he shot Haley “in the back of the head.”

Wirth’s friend, Clayton Combs, also faced first-degree murder charges in the crime. Combs took the stand to testify against Wirth after accepting a plea deal on Wednesday. Combs was given 40 years in prison in exchange for his testimony.

Wirth’s attorney, Kevin Shirley, says he plans to appeal the decision after sentencing. Wirth’s sentencing hearing will take place on May 9.
