FORT MYERS, Fla. – Dozens were evacuated from a building at the Westwood Apartments on Metro Parkway as police tried to negotiate with a man in a unit on Thursday around 9 p.m. Police were seen with guns drawn and shields out, pounding on the door and yelling for the man to come out with his “hands up.” The police barricade stemmed from a domestic argument inside the home, Fort Myers police said. Police also said they were concerned about the safety of a child inside the apartment unit. A woman was seen carrying a baby out of the apartment around 9:15 p.m. A man walked out the apartment, was searched and handcuffed shortly after. The man was taken to a hospital for minor injuries, according to police. A call was made to police after neighbors said they heard loud banging and a gunshot that went through a neighbor’s floor. They also said the couple argues often.
