CAPE CORAL, Fla. – An unsuspecting victim found himself face-to-face with an intruder in his home early Wednesday morning.

The burglar pried open a window and crawled through, roaming the Cape Coral home and stealing jewelry and other valuables in the dark.

The suspect was dressed in a jacket with the hood pulled tight over his face when the homeowner ran into him after waking up and stepping out of his bathroom.

A struggle between the two men ensued immediately.

“He was standing in this alcove, okay?” the homeowner said. “We bounced around in here. Made it out here.”

They slammed into the walls, fell to the floor, and went out onto the lanai. The commotion woke up the homeowner’s wife.

“I started to panic. I really wasn’t thinking yet,” the wife said.

The burglar broke free of the husband and took off, the couple said.

“He jumped up like a jack rabbit and ran out the door,” the homeowner said.

The suspected burglar has not been arrested but the couple is investing in a security system and have placed spacers onto their windows.

Cape Coral police searched the area but were unable to find the man. If you have any information, you are asked to call the Cape Coral Police Department at 239-574-3223.
