MIAMI (AP) – The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended the search for a Cuban migrant reported missing in waters off Key West.

The search was called off Wednesday night, hours after the Coast Guard receiving a report about 11 Cuban migrants arriving on Man Key. The migrants told officials two other men were last seen in the water. A helicopter crew rescued one man off Crawfish Key.

In a news release, the Coast Guard says crews combed some 2,000 nautical miles searching for the man.

Since Oct. 1, the Coast Guard has captured, intercepted or chased away more some 2,065 Cuban migrants. In the fiscal year that ended Sept. 30, 4,473 Cuban migrants were kept from reaching U.S. shores. Cubans are allowed to stay in the United States if they reach land.
