BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. – Residents of Estero were mailed ballots that allow them to vote for the mayor and city council seats in Bonita Springs. The Lee County Supervisor of Elections Office confirmed that the office made the error, but followed up with a letter requesting Estero residents disregard the original ballot and use a second ballot instead. But the notice was also sent to voters who live at Cielo at the Colony, which is within the boundaries of Bonita Springs. These voters are eligible to vote in Bonita Springs elections and said they already had the correct ballot. County officials said they are looking into the discrepancy but would not release information about how many people were affected. People who believe they have an incorrect ballot are asked to contact the Lee County Supervisor of Elections Office at 239-339-6300. The Supervisor of Elections is Sharon Harrington. She has faced criticism after her office’s website was hacked.
