FORT MYERS, Fla.- The 24-year-old man accused of killing a Gulf Express convenience store clerk during an early Monday morning robbery told authorities he “did not mean to kill” the victim, according to an underacted arrest report.

Christopher Harris admitted to entering the store on Palm Beach Boulevard in the Tice area, “armed with the intent of robbing the store,” the report said.

Harris then shot 62-year old Syed Ahad twice in the chest before climbing over the counter and taking cash from the register, the report said. Harris said he thought someone would find Ahad before he died, authorities said.

Authorities later arrested Harris at the Palm Beach Motel, about a block from the gas station.

Harris remains in the Lee County jail without bond, charged with second-degree murder and robbery with a firearm.
