FORT MYERS, Fla. – Some of the new security cameras in Downtown Fort Myers are not working properly after severe weather affected their signals, Fort Myers City Manager Saeed Kazemi said Wednesday. The cameras run on WiFi and sometimes their signal drops but then automatically reboots, officials said. There is at least one working camera in each pod of cameras, Fort Myers Chief Dennis Eads said. Both Kazemi and Eads said the city’s plan is to switch the cameras off WiFi and onto fiber optic cables. This should resolve any issues with signals, they said. There has been no official cost estimate yet, but would likely be around $10,000, Kazemi said. As of last night, 109 of the 118 cameras were operating correctly, according to Kazeemi. The remainder of the cameras are being worked on.
