Residents affected by Cape Coral tornado now able to apply for loans

CAPE CORAL, Fla.- For Doug and Sheila Clamors, Tuesday marks an important step in the long process of getting their lives back in order following the EF2 tornado that swept through Cape Coral and caused roughly $90,000 in damage to the couple’s home.

“We need a complete new roof, our swimming pool needs to be totally rebuilt, our pool cage is a disaster,” said Doug Clamors.

Beginning on Tuesday, those affected by the tornado can visit the Cape Coral Public Works building to apply for low-interest disaster relief loans courtesy of the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Homeowners like the Clamors may be eligible to receive up to $200,000 for structural repairs at lower than a 2% interest rate.

“There’s quite a bit of gap between what insurance is gonna cover and what they’re not gonna cover so we thought we’d apply for the loan,” Doug Clamors said. “It means a lot because we don’t have a lot of money in the bank, we’re struggling like most Americans are right now, so it’s a big deal,”

The SBA will be at the public works building located at 815 Nicholas Pkwy. every day this week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
