Bonita Springs council strikes down high-rise condos in 3-1 vote

BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. – The mayor of Bonita Springs was booed by attendees in a council meeting about a controversial development Wednesday.

City council members voted 3-1, denying plans from developers WCI to change a proposed golf course into four high-rise condos.

Mayor Ben Nelson was the only city leader to vote in favor of developers who want to build the high-rise buildings off Coconut Road near the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point for a proposed community called Pelican Landing.

The four shut-down “Raptor Bay” condos were very unpopular with Bonita Springs residents who attended Wednesday’s meeting by the dozens. They held signs expressing their displeasure with the condos.

Ultimately, the council’s vote reflected residents’ concerns, but the decision does not stop the Pelican Landings project.
