PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla.- A 2-year-old Brittany breed dog from Port Charlotte is heading to the Big Apple to compete at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. Brianna likes playing fetch and eating treats, but this month she won’t have much time for fun and games as she prepares for the biggest dog show in the world. “In two weeks we’re going to go to New York City!” said Brianna’s owner, Christine Bishop. “For my husband and I, Westminster is definitely the top of the rainbow, we’ve watched it every year that I could even remember.” Bishop says Brianna won her first title as an 8-month-old puppy and since then, her awards and titles continued to stack up. “The average citizen can do it. Yeah, it’s a tight knit sport, it’s hard to get into and all that, but you can do it. I mean anyone can do it if they put their mind to it,” Bishop said. More than 3,000 dogs from across the country are competing at the show. Bishop says for their first time at Westminster, she’ll be happy if they place on the breed level. “We’ve always wanted to go, we just never dreamed that we would have a dog that was viable and capable enough to participate,” Bishop said. The dog show takes place Feb. 15-16.
