Shady Acres RV Park owner working to resolve sewage problems

FORT MYERS, Fla.- Sewage seeping up from the ground at Shady Acres RV Park, near San Carlos Park, is causing an unbearable smell at the trailer site, according to some residents.

The owner of the site says two pumps clogged after residents flushed down items they shouldn’t have and that caused some sewage to spill onto the ground.

“Per the health department we cleaned up any solids, put down lyme, which is per health department and does not just mask the odors, it sanitizes the area,” said Raymond Perrine with Perrine Enterprises.

Residents and Perrine say the health department was on site Monday, but the owner says the company wasn’t cited after the visit.

“The health department came out today and did an inspection of our property, found no violations,” said Perrine.

Even so, some residents say they wish they could just pack up, leave, and get a refund.

“Third world countries are not living in their own feces,” said one resident.

“Health department stated that we had done everything that we were supposed to do in a timely manner,” Perrine said.

The owner says he plans to send a letter out to residents to remind them what can and can’t be flushed.
