FMB Town Council approves new storm water assessment fee

FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla.- More than a hundred Fort Myers Beach residents packed the Town Hall meeting on Monday where town leaders voted to approve a new storm water assessment fee.

It was standing-room only inside council chambers, while dozens more sat in the lobby and watched Fort Myers Beach leaders vote in favor of the monthly $19.98 fee.

Most of those present at the meeting were residents from Bay Beach Lane who already pay for their own storm water system and don’t believe they should be included in the new fee.

The money collected from the fee will pay off a debt the town has from a completed storm water project, maintenance, and storm drains along Bayside streets.

“It’s a needed project, it’s something that is going to cause some, a lot of inconvenience in the municipality, but it has to be done,” said resident Daniel Hughes.

At the next council meeting, Fort Myers Beach leaders will set an admin fee, meaning at some point residents will be paying more than $19.98.
