Fecal matter left from flooding in Lee County RV park

Published: Updated:

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Puddles of fecal matter have gathered at Shady Acres RV Park after waters from flooding last week receded, residents say.

Residents have placed chemical lime over the most noticeable spots of feces in an attempt to mask the stench but say the mess has not been cleaned.

“Toilet paper, feces everywhere,” said one resident. “The tanks on many sites have been bubbling up with raw sewage, which has not been cleaned up. It’s still all over the ground.”

Residents said rainwater pushed up drainage pumps and caused feces to begin spilling into their community. The overflow of feces, its accompanying smell and sanitation concerns have made living difficult for park residents.

“I have to take my shoes off — leave them outside. I’ve got through two pairs of shoes. I have antibiotic soap and wash my feet because it’s gone over your shoes,” one Shady Acres RV Park woman said.

A representative from Shady Acres RV Park management said they are working to address the issue.
