Make-A-Wish sends Estero HS grad to Super Bowl

FORT MYERS, Fla. – This time last year, Ryan Lohan was in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit from complications with a rare form of cancer. Now, he’s gearing up for a trip to the Super Bowl, cancer-free.

“I think they mentioned something about a tour of the stadium so I’m definitely looking forward to that, might get to meet some players hopefully,” 19-year-old Lohan said.

During his senior year at Estero High School, Lohan was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer after having trouble breathing and coughing up blood.

“They showed me an x-ray of a gigantic tumor in my chest.”

He went through several months of treatment and surgeries. He was about to go to the Super Bowl last year, but they couldn’t fit him in. Lohan says it was a blessing in disguise.

“I’m kind of glad I didn’t go because I’m a Dolphins fan,” Lohan explained. “I didn’t want the Patriots to win.”

Feeling much better now, he’s ready to cheer on the Panthers for Super Bowl XLIX.

“My favorite player in the Super Bowl; I kind of hopped on the Cam-bandwagon this year,” Lohan said. “If I get to meet him I’m going to get a picture of me doing ‘the dab’ with the Cam.”

On average, Make-A-Wish grants a wish once every 37 minutes to children with life-threatening conditions.
