CAPTIVA ISLAND, Fla.- More than 700 vacationers and locals are without power on Captiva Island after a driver plowed into a cement pole. The accident happened around 7:30 p.m. on Monday. The driver was then taken into custody for driving impaired. For hours, people looking to get onto or off of the island were stuck. Cars lined both sides of the street as traffic was shutdown in both directions. Lee County Electric Cooperative (LCEC) worked to get power restored but says it’s difficult to repair that line. Fire officials tell WINK News, the same thing happened in April 2015 and the same pole was hit. LCEC estimates it will take around eight hours to repair the line and get that pole back up and running. That means many tourists are stuck on the island for a night without power.
