FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla.- The death of a man whose body was found early Tuesday morning in a canal behind Topps Supermarket on Estero Boulevard is not suspicious, Lee County detectives said.

A boater arriving Tuesday morning noticed the body in the water just off the dock and called 911.

Authorities identified the victim as 50-year-old Steven Barnes, also known as Oscar, a transient in the Fort Myers Beach area.

An autopsy confirmed Barnes’ death as a drowning. Locals say the victim may have been drinking when he fell off a dock and into the water.
